Not everything gets into daily posts. They often get too long and some things end up getting cut. Not that they’re less important, but they may just not “fit” into that post at the time.
Well, here’s what has been going on lately behind the posts…
~~~
- I’ve made a daring career choice.
In my sophomore year, I switched my major from Pre-Pharm to Nutrition Science and somehow lost touch in my goal to go into the field of medicine. However, I’ve still been taking the “pre-med” path with loads of difficult sciences and other challenging classes, unlike the (much easier) courses offered in other nutrition curriculum that would lead to the same career as a nutritionist.
To take full advantage of the difficult curriculum I’ve already been through, I’ve decided to follow through with the medical path and aim for medical school.
From that jumping point, I’ve landed on one very ambitious career choice of becoming a sports medicine physician.
That’s a huge goal and a huge change. Medical school, residency, having to move, another 7 years of schooling, just getting into medical school…it’s a lot to take in. But as exciting as it is, I can’t count my eggs before they hatch.
I know how hard it is to get into medical school. I know I’m not the most competitive student. I know it will take a lot to even be considered for medical school. But I believe I can do it.
The application for medical school will have to go in sometime this year. So I’ll be getting pretty busy with preparing for it. Here’s what has to be done:
- Consistently volunteer with physicians.
- Volunteer other places.
- Study my bum off. All A’s from here on out. *gulp*
- Take the MCAT. Starting to study now!
- Manage to do all of it without going insane.
There, that’s not so bad! ![]()
- My camera is gone for the next 4-6 weeks.
I sent it into get cleaned a few days ago thinking it would only take a few days. Turns out, it’ll be gone for over a month!! I miss it!
Thankfully, my parents have their camera fort me to use while home.
- Had my first experience at a consignment shop.
And had the hardest time choosing something. It was all top line stuff, but I’m more used to spending very little on a lot of cheaper clothes rather than a lot on one piece of clothing. It was hard to feel like I was getting a deal!
I did walk away with a very nice Ann Taylor pencil skirt for $30, though!! I’ve been looking for a good one of these.![]()
(Only to later find out it’s on sale from Ann Taylor for $30 anyway. But they’re all sold out, so I still got lucky.)
- New goal: drink water. A lot of it.
It’s hard for me to drink enough water. Some days I get plenty while other days I’ll ignore thirst for the sake of being too lazy to get a drink.
I’ve tried other methods of being sure to drink enough water with no avail until finally finding something that works: ![]()
Filling up a gallon jug in the morning and being sure I’m through it by the end of the day. It helps keep track of how much is actually going into my body.
So far, I love it! It has really curved my hunger so I’m not always grabbing food when really, I’m just thirsty!
- Michael and I shouldn’t play games together without an official referee.
We started the day playing games just for fun and ended it arguing over why one of us shouldn’t have won, that the rules were botched, the cards weren’t shuffled correctly…yadda, yadda.![]()
Bottom line: neither of us were right because we didn’t know the official rules for most the games.
Not knowing rules + him needing to win + me wanting the last say = nobody wins. (Except me.
)
**Have you had any experience at consignment shops?
**Are you competitive?
**How do you make sure you’re getting enough water?
You are going to make a great sports medicine physician! It may be a challenging journey, but that makes it even more exciting. One major edge you have over other students is that you are great at balancing many activities…blogging, school, yoga instructor, horseback riding, boyfriend…obviously you handle your time well. You will do great!
Thanks! Now as long as I can keep that balance up. I’m having to use Google Calendar to add in all the volunteer and study sessions. It’s filling up QUICK! :/
sports medicine sounds like such a fun field! congrats to you – i know those are tough decisions!
I love the skirt!! :D
I love consignment shops! Especially ones close to college campuses because they always have the best stuff! :)
My boyfriend and I are really competitive so it’s interesting when we play games. Knowing the rules would probably help a lot.
Congrats on your career path change. You’re going to be great!
Yay congrats on your career choice! How exciting :) Seems right up your alley.
Congrats on the new career direction! It’ll be a lot of work but if you’re invested it’ll be worth it :D
You go girl!!! Way to set your goals high. You can do it! Come to Charleston, the Medical University of South Carolina is awesome. Plus, you can work out at their gym (my gym!). I’ve never ventured into consignment shopping, mainly because I don’t like clothes shopping in general (unless it’s the Nike Store). I just shop online at stores that never fail me. I am uber competitive. If you’ve ever read any of my race posts on my blog, it should be pretty apparent! And water…I don’t drink as much as I should…however, I eat a LOT of fruit during the day, and Dr. Oz said that technically, 1 banana or 1 apple each have approximately 8 oz. of water. Pretty cool, and makes sense considering how much I exercise and how little water I consume. In the summer, thirst kicks in, but this time of the year, I never reach for water. If you enjoy water, keep drinking! If you’re like me, and it bores you, eat more fruit during the day. Water + fiber, you can’t go wrong with that, right? =) Good luck with your endeavors!
That may be one I apply to! I do love South Carolina and have read a bit about their school. You’re daring to shop online for clothes. I have hard enough time trying on a ton of clothes without a single one fitting right! Buying online would be risky! I knew fruit had water, but 8 oz in an apple?! That sounds like a lot but really, I don’t doubt it. Especially if it’s a big apple! Drinking a huge amount of water definitely isn’t necessary if getting a lot of fruits and veggies. We learned in sports nutrition approximately 3-4 cups of water in our diet comes from food while the other 8 cups should come from drinks. It ranges from person to person, of course!
I hope you give MUSC a shot! It’s a great school with a solid reputation. And you would LOVE Charleston. I only shop online at places that allow for easy returns/exchanges, for example, check out Zappos.com <—(Zappos is great! I order all of my Asics from them, and once you know your size in your favorite shoes, they will ship AND return everything free, sometimes overnight!) Keep drinking that water! I wish I was thirstier…water just bores me. =/
I love consignment shops! It does get overwhelming to think of all the good quality, inexpensive clothes you can get. :-)
