Not giving up, just giving in.

I couldn’t wait to get out the door to run this morning! That 20 miler that had to be skipped last week was on the schedule and my legs were ready for it.

Didn’t happen.

Again.

Because I woke up with hip pain. Again.

GAH!

The bike worked so well last week and even helped my hip feel better, I decided to give it a try. First, a brake replacement was needed.BikeThe next 30 minutes were spent taking the tire off, screwing, unscrewing, trying to put the tire back one, screwing & unscrewing again, trying to squeeze the tire in…

Didn’t work. The brakes are too big.

Umph. Annoyed

Oh well! Guess the old brakes will work. Time for a snack.Cinnamon bagelThe bike’s ready and my stomach’s happy. Time to head out.

WHOA, it’s cold!

Come back inside, have breakfast instead.Baked oatmealUsually, a little chilliness isn’t enough to put off a workout…but I was upset at this point. Running was on my mind, riding the bike was not. So going out in the cold for something I didn’t really want to do did not seem enjoyable.

Something was needed to take my mind off things.Baked oatmealThis worked. Smile

Baked oatmeal made with:

  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 2 T soy flour
  • 1/2 scoop Matrix 5.0 protein
  • 2 T pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup soy milk
  • dash salt

Baked for 25 minutes and served warm.Baked oatmealOkay, enough procrastinating. Let’s try this bike thing again.

By this time it felt incredible outside. Maybe this won’t be so bad after all!

The goal was another 40 miles…

Didn’t happen.GarminI can make excuses saying the wind was way too strong (which is was), my tires were running on low (which they were) which made hills really hard, and yadda yadda yadda…

But when it comes down to it, I just did not want to be out there. My mind was somewhere else and dealing with the elements made it 15x worse.

Fortunately, there was a back-up plan.BikeLasted 5 minutes. Way too boring.

I’m not one to give into my mind when it comes to it sabotaging workouts…but this was much more than the usual lack of motivation.

Maybe it’s because I had my heart set on running or the fact I’m so ridiculously frustrated with this hip pain…but I literally had to force myself through every single second of the workout. It was dreadful. And there’s no reason we should have to do that.

I’m taking it as a sign to step away from it all and give in to rest. My mind needs it.

Hope you all have a wonderful day. Whether you’re resting or working, love every minute of it!

Sorry about all your setbacks. I hope your hip feels better soon!
I have a love/hate relationship with swimming. I’ve been doing it for so long that it’s hard for me to get going sometimes, but I love it when I actually do it.

I don’t really do workouts that I have a love-hate relationship with! It’s gotta be all love-love for me to do it! Haha :)

That sounds like a very stressful day, but at least you had some yummy baked oatmeal that must have made up for a portion of the bad stuff.

I have been there too many times to count!! Marathon training completely breaks you down, both mentally and physically! Taking a much needed rest seems like a great idea!
