I realized something this morning…we’re only a week into the fall semester and it already has me bogged down. Not to the point of having an anxiety attack by any means, but it’s shifted my priorities, that’s for sure.
School comes first; there’s no doubt about that. But between school, marathon training, instructing yoga, and every other little thing that pops up, somehow someone very important to me has been put on the side burner.
So, I’m making a new goal for this semester.
To spend more time here.
Doing this.
With her.
It’s a sad thing- I failed to make time to visit CoCo once this entire week. All the blame can’t be put on a busy schedule, either- there has been some free time. Only, that free time was spent sitting on the couch with my heels kicked up being lazy rather than spending time at the stables.
No idea why, either. This view trumps anything my living room has to offer.
It was such a glorious morning ride- peaceful and exactly what both of us needed. So much so, we’re in for a second one this evening to soak up all the time with CoCo I can.
“We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.” -Cynthia Ozick
Have a wonderful day, everyone!
**Is there something you take for granted? You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to…but if there is something, take time to show your appreciation!

Right now I would say I take electricity for granted since we’re probably going to be losing it soon!
Ohhh yeah, that’s a big something always taken for granted! Hope it’s still up for you!
I take my body for granted! I’m blessed to be able to do the activities I do, but I don’t take care of myself (not much of a stretcher…) and then get upset when I get injured or my knees hurt!
I take school for granted! Education gets you so far in life, but a lot of the time i just hate going to school! i should be thankful because there are kids out there that dont have the opportunity.
Good point! All those tests we have to spend hours studying for are actually a blessing in disguise.
Gah I think I take a lot of things for granted. As much as I try to appreciate all of the small things, I don’t really realize how much I have until I lose something. Health, education, family, the country I live in… we have so many things to be thankful for each day. And that’s definitely a gorgeous view… hope you have some amazing rides with CoCo :)
I’ll take the view from the barn over the one from my room any day, too! Sometimes it’s easy to put things we love on the backburner, but I find once I’m there I always have a good time…whereas if I choose to stay home it’s just same-old same-old, you know?!
Great post, I try not to take things and even people for granted, but it can be really tricky sometimes.
Hang in there! The first couple weeks of a semester are always the hardest… finding a “school” routine that works for a new schedule and figuring out the best way to study (aka pass all your classes) is tough! Love the goal you made. It’s so important to find that extra time for YOU, doing what you love. :)
My garden! I love it and we spend ages making it nice, but hardly any time outside actually enjoying it.
That quote just rocked my morning! I am SO guilty of taking for granted all of the important people in my life…I convince myself that they’ll always be there so why do I always have to treat them well? It’s so so wrong and I hate having that attitude. TIME is something I also take for granted like crazy.
Good point! It’s a scary thought that maybe one day they’ll suddenly be taken away from us. They’re definitely not something to be taken for granted.
I take where I live for granted sometimes, especially when the weather’s rubbish! But when the sun comes out and I realise again how lucky I am to live in the middle of nowhere :-)
ahh horseback riding is so relaxing! i’ve done equine therapy in the past, and i’m not exactly sure what the intended therapy was, but i find it just so relaxing. you’re so lucky to have your own horse! every girl’s dream, their own pony ;)
i think i take my free time for granted. i often complain about having nothing to do…but having nothing scheduled means i have so much time to try new things!
