Heal, hip. Heal.

I feel strong.

Because I chose not to run the 10K I had registered to take part in today.

I got to the park bright and early with every intention of running…but upon a warm up jog, a shooting pain in my hip had me in agonizing pain.

That pain was from my left hip flexor which I strained sometime last week (I’m thinking during karate).  It’s been bothering me for the past few days but felt fine this morning.  Until trying to run, that is.

In the past, I would have just sucked it up and run the race anyway.  But after suffering through multiple injuries and never letting them properly heal, I finally learned actually resting and letting the injury heal is so much better than struggling through them just to log a few more miles.

So instead of limping through 6 miles of pain, I opted out of the race and became a photographer instead.

Aubie approved. Wink

It was hard not jumping in the line up…but it was nice watching the excitement from the sidelines for once.

Annnd they’re off!!

Later, runners…I’m off to the lake.

I lounged by the water for about an hour soaking up the warmth and peacefulness.  It was the perfect way to spend part of the morning.

Sure, missing out on the race wasn’t the original plan…but it didn’t turn out so bad. Smile

Congrats on NOT running your race yesterday! :) It honestly takes huge guts not to run something you’ve already signed up for, so I’m admiring you tremendously right now! Sometimes just watching everybody race is really fun anyway:) I love watching my dad run his marathons (although I have to admit, I get super jealous that I’m not running as well!)

I’m glad you’re able to not run in order to let your hip rest and not have shooting pain…hmm, maybe there’s some sort of connection, earlier today on the elliptical, I started feeling a twinge in my lower hip O.o. hehe >.>.
How did I take care of myself today? Oh my gosh…wow, I can just say that it’s about 12:30 here (only mid-day!) and I feel like I’ve been through the mill. XP
Why? Because I DIDN’t run today either. I’ve been taking one day off a week. It’s ridiculously hard for me. Emotionally anyways. It’s not that I don’t exercise on this day either (well, if you count walking, but I don’t really count it XP), it’s that I don’t RUN. it throws off my WHOLE day. It’s like my day can’t start. So when life keeps rolling it’s like “WTF?!?!?!” Phew -.-. Ha, but I’m rather mellow right now. I’m gonna blog later on today about what helped me earlier though, hehe ^.^”".

Sympathy pains perhaps? Awwwe, thank you! haha ;) I’m glad you were able to take a day off. I know exactly how you feel. Off days are hard because it’s as if the day isn’t complete without some sort of workout. Hopefully rest days will come easier to you soon, though! :)

Such a good choice to sit out the race, I know how it is when all we want to do is ignore pain and run through it, but you were wise to wait this one out :D Hopefully with some good R&R, a little bit of hip rehab and some cross training you can have a happy hip soon!

Take care + happy weekend!

That really sucks that you didn’t get to run the race but I’m happy that you still managed to have a good day. One race isn’t worth our health. :)

Today I took care of myself by making sure I had breakfast. I was so rushed and ended up being a little late for work but it was totally worth it.

Sorry you had to miss the race, but Im so glad you chose your body’s health over a race! You need to take care of yourself girl, and taking today off was a great way to do that :)

It’s never a good idea to try something when your body is just in too much pain. Sometimes you know when it’s best to sit it out. Don’t worry there will be others :) And I took care of myself today by drinking lots of water :D

Good for you for making the choice to let yourself heal. That’s definitely a lesson to learn and then a rule to abide by ;) There will be far more races in your future – too many to let one hurt you further!

Good on you! You are so right that the rest will make you stronger.
Today I have not run 13 miles, as I am still not 100% well, and my 4 mile run yesterday showed me that I was not ready for a longer run. :) Today I am going to care for myself by drinking lots of water and having a walk.

I went for a nice power walk instead of a run. Walks are always so luxurious when you’ve been running all week. Good job for listening to your body! That’s a tough thing to do, especially if you love running as much as you do (and you’ve registered for the race!).

Good for you for making the right choice! I’m usually really stubborn, so I’ve ended up injuring myself by not listening to my body. I was kind to myself today by taking the day off from exercise- after a bad night’s sleep, I just wanted to take it easy :)

That’s my main problem, too. I’ve gone through so many injuries and have only made them so much worse by ignoring the pain. I’m finally learning our bodies hurt for an actual reason! :P
