Hello, loves and lovettes!
Hope you’ve all had a wonderful day. It’s been a daunting one here, I’ll be honest. Actually, this whole week has been thanks to 3 glorious midterms (physics and anatomy were back-to-back today!)..so yeah, my brain’s a bit fried. But at least it’s all easy sailing from here..and then it’s Spring Break, babbyyy!!! ![]()
Plus, there was one superfreakingamazing day of the week!!
That day being Tuesday- a day full of cake and excitement.
A day to live a dream.
That dream being to meet a Food Network Star!! Specifically the coolest one of them all.

DUFF GOLDMAN from the Ace of Cakes!!!!
Is it weird that one of my dreams was to meet a Food Network star? Heck no!
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the show, but if not..it’s about Duff and his best friends making ridiculously amazing cakes! You can go here for more information…but basically, they’re awesome people making the coolest cakes. The show’s no longer airing, but that doesn’t take away from who amazing they each are. So I was undoubtedly so excited when learning Duff was coming to Auburn!!
To make things even cooler: the first 100 people there could attend the meet and greet after the show.
Guess who was there 2 hours early to ensure a spot in that first 100? That’s right!! I wasn’t about to miss out on the chance to meet him, so the waiting in line was nothing. People had been parked there for even hours before that, but luckily I was still in the lucky range.

OH YEAH!! Snagged the golden orange ticket!! ![]()
They must have planned on so many people being there so early, because they set up a table full of amazing cakes local bakeries had decorated for the night. They called us to vote for which one we thought was the best..and this one definitely deserved the medal:
How cool is that?! Honestly, this was absolutely jaw-dropping. It obviously showed school spirit, but the best thing about it was it’s topper in honor of our Oaks.
And believe it or not, it tasted even better than it looked!! The part I got to try was vanilla bean cake with coconut frosting. Not to mention it was super moist, too! YUM!! ![]()
Finally the doors opened and we began filing into the ball room. It was pretty calm until someone yelled “I SEE DUFF!!”..who had walked through the back doors for a quick peek. A few minutes later, they introduced him and there he was in front of us!
He was technically supposed to talk about his success as a baker, but we ended up chatting about much more. And I mean random stuff- his iPod playlist, hilarious Facebook messages, FN chef gossip…(yeah, I’ll never look at certain chefs the same way ever again!)
The whole session was one big Q&A and he was really open to answering whatever we had to throw at him, so you can imagine some of the stuff that was discussed. College kid questions + Duff answers = anything goes!!
It was so cool to learn some behind-the-scenes of his show, his feelings behind his new store opening in LA..but the most fun was hearing a few of his personal stories. You know, being in a band and having a bit of a wild side in college..he definitely has some good ones to share!
Basically, Duff’s a hilarious guy. I thought he was cool before, but he’s 10X that in person.
He talked for a few hours before having to wrap it up. Then, it was time ffor the meet ‘n’ greet!
Yeah, you’ve already seen this picture. But I love it- can you blame me? ![]()
I did give him a heads up that he’ll be making my wedding cake…that was settled years ago! The drive all the way to LA to pick it up will totally be worth it.

Oh my gosh. I want to know FN gossip! Please tell me it’s nothing bad about Giada!
How cool is that! I love the special cake he made and you’re so lucky to taste it! Vanilla bean with coconut sounds DIVINE!
Lucky girl! I don’t watch much TV but whenever I randomly decided to, if Ace of Cakes was on it would definitely be my pick. He seems like an awesome guy and I don’t blame you for being ridiculously excited to meet him. I would be too!
If I could meet anyone.. I would probably choose.. well.. I don’t know. I don’t really have that many idols. Maybe some sexy actor like Robert Downey Jr. 8-)
*drool* Nice choice! haha
Oh gosh, that is SO cool!! haha, I’m dying to know the FN gossip, too. He sounds like so much fun!! I love when TV stars are like, actually genuine people and not all “yeah I’m famous.” :P
Oh yeah, I know what you mean! It hasn’t seemed to affect him the least bit. :) In fact he even said “We’re all still artists and musicians baking so our bands can go on tour to grungy bars and play for $20 each.” Yeah, right..but it was cool of him to say that. :P
Ahh! That’s so cool!
