Hellloo!
So I promise I posted this two hours ago and just now realized it was still a “draft” Whoops!
Anyway, we’re now officially more than halfway to the weekend! Woot!
Hopefully you’ve all had a great day- it sure has been over here so far.
Remember how I mentioned my knees feeling a little stiff in this morning’s post? Well, we learned exactly why that is in today’s anatomy lesson.
Our knees have a membrane around them that secret fluid around our joints that help reduce heat and friction. Our bones have a type of cartilage at the end of them that can either soak up or release that fluid- it soaks up the fluid when we’re not using our knees and releases it when we start exercising.
So now I know exactly why the stiffness went away the more I ran- because the fluid was being release by the cartilage on the bone. I’ll be thinking of that everytime I run from now on. ![]()
Lunch
I was hoping for another sub but didn’t get there in time to beat the long line, so I went for the next best thing.
Turns out it was the right choice anyway. It had a little bit of everything, let’s see..
- the usual of spinach, tomatoes, green peppers, black olives, cucumbers, mushrooms, seasoned peppers/sun dried tomatoes, jalopenos
- light ranch/Italian dressing
- 1 small can of tuna
- breadsticks (that were tasteless and went uneaten)

It was so perfect outside so I desperately tried to find a seat out there with no luck…apparently the rest of the campus thought the same thing. ![]()
Next up was microbiology where we’re starting on cell metabolism. Much of the class involved the teacher doing his best to actually get us excited to learn about it- because apparently this is the test everyone does poorly on. He’s a jokester anyway but throughout he kept playing little clips from The Hangover. The link was between yeast metabolism and beer (obviously). It made for some good laughs but ever since class I’ve had this stuck in my head…
How obvious is it that this was illegally filmed?
Anywho, all the metabolism talk made me crave some quality glucose, so I fixed a bowl of it once I got home.

It’s actually been a while since I’ve had a normal bowl of cereal. It never lets me down. ![]()
Off to ride CoCo in this gorgeous weather! Have a fantastic evening!

Okay, that makes a lot of sense. When I was having knee issues a few years ago I had an MRI done that showed there was a hole in my cartilage and a sack of fluid had collected. You could actually see the fluid on the MRI! Gross. Anyway, I guess that means the fluid wasn’t releasing the way it was supposed to?
that’s such great info about the knee cartilage!! thx for sharing!
hahah, love the song!
The bad thing about the knees is when people get older and that fluid isn’t secreting like it should….how to prevent that is what fascinates me. I LOVE your anatomy lessons so much :-)
The lunch looks super yum! And, i love the hangover…LOVE Bradley Cooper…fun fact: he went to high school 10 minutes from where I live at a private school a lot of my clients kids went to :-)
OH I just wanted to say one other thing on the “bar vs. cookie” subject.
You can cut off a sliver of a bar and no one will be any the wiser! Not saying I did that….but the last piece I ate was definitely the smallest. Hmmmm
:-)
Interesting about the knees! I had a really bad knee which the doctors told me I needed to do strength exercises to make the muscles around the knee stronger. So I do that, but since I took up running it has been loads better, and it is at its worst when I sit still all day (I had a bad day on holiday after an 8 hour train journey as it got so stiff). So now I know why!
